Tuesday Tip | Easier Coconut Oil Rinsing

Tuesday Tip | Easier Coconut Oil Rinsing

I think by now we all know that coconut oil is awesome. It can be used for pretty much anything, seriously. Have you been using it for an oil treatment for your hair? Coconut oil is the richest source of MFCA’s. It can prevent protein loss in hair. Use organic coconut oil for best results. Chemical processing can destroy the nutrients of the oil. There are a few different methods for applying the oil to your hair:

  1.  Put very warm/hot water in a large bowl then place a smaller bowl with a little coconut oil into it to melt the oil. Apply oil to dry hair.
  2.  Put a little coconut oil into a microwave-safe dish and warm for a few seconds in the microwave to melt it, watch closely. Apply oil to dry hair.
  3. Put the coconut oil into your palms and rub together to soften it (I use this method as I am “selectively active”). Apply to dry hair.

A little goes a long way. Concentrate on the ends of your hair but you can take it all the way to your scalp for best results. It is said to be good for treating dandruff. Leave on overnight or up to 24 hours. To avoid getting the oil on your pillow when sleeping, wear a shower cap, use a dedicated oil treatment pillowcase, or cover your pillow with a large old t-shirt (I use this trick).

Here’s the big tip, when you go to wash it out of your hair, lather your hair with shampoo BEFORE you wet it. Then rinse that shampoo out and lather again. This method makes it much easier to rinse the oil out of your hair. Depending on your hair type; repeat every seven, ten or fourteen days.

For people who are allergic to coconuts, avocado oil is a great substitute. It should be applied to wet hair and can be massaged into the scalp as a deep conditioning treatment. What treatments do you guys use on your hair? Please share all the details below.
