The weather is our go-to topic for small talk. Why? It’s so monotonous. Seriously, it’s the dullest thing (sorry Mr. Weathrman), it’s always the same, and half the time it’s a negative conversation. Too hot, too cold, I hate the humidity, I hate the snow, blah, blah, blah…Can we just stop!
For instance, I was asked earlier how I was doing. I immediately responded, without a second thought, “Great, except the cold weather.” No one asked about the weather, but I felt the need to add in this stale conversation filler. I immediately felt lame and a little rude. Instead of asking how their day was going. But no, my lame ass complained about the weather.
Why don’t we use these brief moments to fill the conversation with a compliment? Or to suggest a great book we read? Tell a joke? Why not mention the best thing that happened to us on this particular day?
I can tell you two great things that happened to me. I got to wear my version of a snuggie out in public. Yes, I grabbed it out of the back of my automobile, and it’s wrinkled af, but I still love it. I have no shame. I will also be wearing this with much leisure wear (nightgowns). Another thing I am very pleased with is the results from the blue shampoo. I no longer look like I just enjoyed a vacation in Panama City while using Sun-In, meaning I no longer have orange in my hair!
So this week, let’s not talk about the weather. Let’s talk about the things we love and the things we’re grateful for. Or if you have the time for a more meaningful conversation, talk about something that’s important to you. What will you talk about instead of the weather this week? Tell me in the comments.
