Inexpensive Beauty

I want to be all things to all people all the time and then I don’t, ya’ know? Sometimes I get tired and want to shut myself off to the world, so I do. And it is f*cking fabulous! While I do love me some $185 Vintner’s Daughter, I also love some under $5 treatments as well. High/low beauty is a thing, and I’m here to tell you about it.

A great, gentle, clean scrub for cheap is baking soda. Yep, the stuff that removes smells from your refrigerator will also gently remove dead skin from your face. Use it with a Clarisonic or less expensive scrubbing tool for even better results. For maximum luxury scrub your entire body with baking soda.

Dry brushing is the first thing I do before I get in the shower and I cannot imagine life without it. I have been doing it for years, and I am a firm believer that it is the reason that I do not have much cellulite. I’m sure diet, exercise, genes, and blah, blah, blah contribute but I stand behind dry brushing. It works for me, I believe in it, and I do it. I spent $20 on this Dry Brushing Set, and I spend a couple of minutes each morning. I think it’s worth the investment. You can get a dry brush for $10 here.

I love soaking in an Epsom salt bath! There’s not a lot of scientific research, but the placebo effect totally has me convinced that it helps relieve my sore muscles, arthritis pain, fibromyalgia, and tired, swollen feet. I use whatever drugstore brand is on sale, I am saving my money for handbags {ha} but my son likes the bougie DrTeal’s. Another great use for Epsom salts is scrubbing off that leftover fake/spray tan, proceed with caution.

Vaseline is the most versatile thing I keep in my beauty drawer. I have used it to remove my eye makeup for over twenty years. My dermatologist told me to use it on my eczema patches when they are mild. I have used it on my lips as gloss before I discovered Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (Vaseline cost much less), I use it to help my fragrance last longer, and if I’m out of coconut oil I will use it as a lotion (I have the dryest skin known to man).

It’s so important to take a little time to nurture ourselves just a little before we try to nurture everyone else, I’m talking to you man child, I love you more than life itself but I need a little me time, and that’s okay.
